Community
sets table for meals
On
behalf of all the volunteers for The Neighborhood Table, I want to thank
you for the splendid coverage of our "kickoff" dinner in your
newspaper.
I was
pleased beyond words
at the great story Karen Madden did for the Christmas Day paper. Then, to
have the coverage again in the New Year's Day paper was wonderful. Karen
has been fun to work with and is an asset to your publication.
We
served about 55 people on New Year's Eve. The people who came to eat
were not only happy with the great meal, but were really pleased that our
volunteers took the time to greet them, to wait on them and to sit and
visit. One lady had tears in her eyes when she told Carrie Siler
"you don't know what this means to a widow who is alone on a holiday."
Another person took carry outs to her family because she had been away
caring for a sister who has cancer, and had no time to cook a meal for
her family.
We
are grateful for the "freewill" donations some of our patrons
insisted on giving to us. We are overwhelmed at the community support,
the phone calls offering help and the unsolicited donations we have
received. Almost every day I receive a letter from our partner, the
Community Foundation of South Wood County, telling me of more donations
received. It is truly heart warming.
Thank
you to all in the community for your support. This is a way you can help
others year-round, not just at Christmas. This is something our community
needs and you can tell by the smiling faces of the volunteers, it is
something we need to do for others
If
anyone would like to contribute to The Neighborhood Table, you can do so
by sending your donation to Community Foundation of South Wood County,
478 E. Grand Ave., Wisconsin Rapids. Mark your check "The
Neighborhood Table."
