A little money goes a long way at Table

September 20, 2004

Question: Where can you feed a family of 400 for less than 50 cents each? Answer: The Neighborhood Table at St. John's Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Rapids.

Organizers of the twice-monthly meals say anyone can sponsor one of the events for $100 to $150, and they're looking for more groups to help. The Neighborhood Table started on Dec. 31 serving free hot meals to the 50 people who showed up. Since then, attendance has exploded. Volunteers now expect up to 400 for this Thursday's meal, served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Director Ginny Steen doesn't want the crowd size to scare away potential sponsors. She has about 15 dedicated volunteers who make sure everything goes smoothly and they know how to stretch a buck.

Please contact Ginny Steen if you can help sponsor one of the meals. You'll never find a better deal.
